First I talk about
how I start a book, reading it over and over and making notes in the margins.
Then I go over all the steps - the dummy, storyboard, research, location
photography, the long hours needed for the whole series of final artworks
and I show an uncut press sheet.
There are plenty of interesting behind the scenes stories.
Then I show the things that few people get to see, like translated versions
of Cross-Country Cat.
I present a slide show that has a vocal soundtrack with music and sound
effects.
After I cover some frequently asked questions, I begin the grand finale:
the live impromptu drawing session. This
ends up to be a very entertaining demonstration of how early story ideas
get onto paper quickly : I call it "tracing my imagination."
