Dear Mr. Ingraham,
I just checked out three of your children's books from the Montgomery County
Library: High-Wire Henry, Henry the Sailor Cat, and Flood (which I had seen
before). I have been a mother for 20 years and I always made it a practice
to look thru children's books fairly quickly and choose those with the best
illustrations, and reject the rest. I really detest poor illustrations,
and misshapen purple cows and other strange things. Your books are some
of the most beautiful illustrations I have ever seen. I shall look for them
in the bookstore. Sharon Bratcher

Thank you for your visit to our school on January 26th. It was
an exciting visit for all of us here at Cherry Drive Elementary. The day
you spent with us is of the high points of this school year. It was just
so much fun!
There was so much about your visit that made it special.
What you brought to our school was an excellent match to our needs. Your
caring for our students was touching. Honestly, Erick, you gave your all
during this visit.
The repercussions of your time with us are many The most
obvious one is the lack of your books on the IMC shelves - they are always
checked out. Last week we were reading Henry The Sailor Cat because it is
one of the books nominated for the Colorado Children's Book Award this year.
All of the youngest students spoke of their memories of your visit. The
older students also enjoyed hearing the book again and shared their memories.
You never will know all the lives you have touched by your contact
with these students.I do know your kind, respectful, and encouraging approach
to these students was appreciated by everyone here at school. You are so
unselfish with the students. A simple thank you seems inadequate to express
how pleased I am with your school visit.
Watching you work with us during your school visit made
me aware of how much we can gain with more knowledge, appreciation, practice,
and understanding of art. The art class you presented was one I wish the
teachers could have attended.
A testimonial written immediately after a presentation:
Thank you very much for coming to our school. The children in my class have
been looking forward to this day for weeks. You are a very good presenter
and an outstanding artist.
I went to elementary school in Steamboat Springs and I remember when Mary
Calhoun used to come to our classes and read Cross-Country Cat to us. The
drawings that you did for that book and for Hot-Air Henry are very realistic
depictions of the Northern Colorado area. They make me reminisce about home.
Your presentation was very impressive. I have never seen such a large group
of students so engaged and so quiet. You should be very proud of your artistic
accomplishments as well as your great and positive influence over America's
youth.
Sincerely,

Excellent choice! The primary students I viewed watching him were spellbound!
Most students had good questions. Room visitations went well.
Thank you - The students and teachers really seemed to enjoy the presentation!
Excellent - Enjoyed him immensely- Great opportunity for students to talk
to an illustrator and learn about how he goes about doing "his job".
A worthwhile activity. Thanks for providing this for the children at Elm
St. School.
This was an outstanding program. Erick Ingraham was excellent with the children
and gave an outstanding program. The author signing and classroom visit
just added an extra intimate look at a famous illustrator. Thank you for
such a meaningful program.
Erick Ingraham was a wonderful presenter! We were all so lucky to have him
visit our school. It was a wonderful way to expose children to the world
of literature and give it a name and face. Many children now talk about
being illustrators when they're older - and most are taking pride in their
drawings. For many small children the concept of illustrator - is sometimes
tough. Now every student in my class knows what the word illustrator means
and they are excited to learn about others.
